Power Saving
Today I was buying some bricolage accessories in aki, when I spotted the power meter that Joao Barros mentioned a few days ago, so I decided to buy one to.
Let me start by saying how much power I’ve started saving by turning off “stand-by” equipments:
- Living room TV (8W in “off”!? and 12W in standby)
- Desktop computer, 2x LCD Monitor (8w) – which I don’t use anymore but were still plugged in.
- Kitchen TV (4W)
- Several Power adapters (4W)
Curiosities:
- G4 mac-mini (30W on, 3W on standby!!)
- Microwave (4W to display a clock !?
Hope to save some € thanks to this

I’ve trying to do a energy audit to my home and that will be an essential addition to my toolkit.
Could you post the name of the product, price and its specifications?
Thank you very much.

I don’t recall the actual name of the product (I trashed the box in which it came in). But it is a product from Chacon which I bought in AKI.

Well thank you for your input.
I just wanted to know that information just to see some reviews of the product before I buy it, but i will go search for it tomorrow on AKI
I will post the request in João Barros’ blog, just to see if he can give me that information until tomorrow.

yep, it’s kinda amazing the power that some electronic products consume. I’m about to buy a new desktop and i’m kinda scared because it will require a power suply with a minimum output of 800Watts just to be sure that it will stay stable and functional without any kind of problems…
I would like to have one of those gadgets, yes i would…

[...] Two years ago I had a first experience with a device that enabled me to monitor my power consumption habits per equipment. It was very educational and enabled me to switch off and remove some less efficient equipments which were basically vampire equipments. Unfortunantely the device can only monitor one equipment at a time and has no interface through which to get data out. [...]
