choosing a new cellphone

I’m in the market for a new cellphone.

My requirements are for:

  • Clam or Slider form-factor
  • Bluetooth
  • Highspeed modem (>EDGE)
  • around 300€ (less would be good :))

So far my choice is between these two:

The Motorola v3xx @ vodafone
Motorola V3xx

Plus: HSDPA modem, always loved the design of the RAZR
Minus: Old model, locked phone

The Sony Ericsson S500i
SE s500i

Plus: It’s similar to my S700i, fits the requirements
Minus: Most reviews complain about the bad materials

Please share your opinion on these two phones ;)

Free your phone. Dump both. Order a FIC 1973, powered by OpenMoko. Now that is something worthwhile, even though it doesn’t slide or clam up. I to prefer the clam design. But then again, better useful phone than a pretty phone.

If you can’t/don’t want a full fledged phone, touch screen, gps, ssh, the whole nine yards. Then just buy the cheapest clam bluetooth phone you can find. It’ll just be to make calls :P.

Diogo, the only thing that I can tell you is that, coming from a sonny-ericsson phone, you may not like the Motorola UI. I had a motorolla before I get my s-e v630i, and I must tell you that the Motorola has a bad UI, in terms of usability. But, as always only your experience can be useful. I suggest you to try one before you but it.

Regarding the S500i, you have one to look at in IT. just find João near alfredo, and look at the phone (and its degradation).

Sorry I can not point any other phone in your target form factor. Just can tell you, try every phone and make an informed decision.

Alfredo: OpenMoko is very interesting, but I really don’t think it fits my needs (forgot mention but I require syncronization capabilities with my MacBook)

Rafael: Thanks for the tip, I’ll ask for João’s review :)
